What volunteers should know about fiesta oyster bake

The Fiesta Oyster Bake has developed into one of the nation’s premiere festivals and events. Because of that success, the Alumni Association has given more than $6 million to scholarships and $3.1 million for a state-of-the-art athletics and convocation center on the campus of St. Mary’s University. These two commitments by the association have enabled many people to experience the greatness that St. Mary’s has to offer.

These successes, however, did not happen overnight. The Fiesta Oyster Bake now in its 94th year, has developed and improved because of the determination and dedication of our volunteers. The volunteer spirit displayed among nearly 7,000 volunteers who contribute 50,000 volunteer hours is the true success of the event. Nearly 80% of our Key Volunteers are graduates of St. Mary’s University. This volunteer spirit is another example of St. Mary’s University’s commitment to serving the communities they represent. The Fiesta Oyster Bake Committee, St. Mary’s University Alumni Association and St. Mary’s University sincerely thank you for your commitment to the event.

Although we have many volunteers, we have a strong need to secure volunteer positions. If you are interested in volunteering for the event, please call the Alumni Relations Office at (210) 436-3324 or 1-800-699-9932 or fill out our on-line volunteer sign up form located on the site’s home page. Again, thank you to all of our volunteers, past and present, for making the Fiesta Oyster Bake a success.

 Areas of service

If you are willing to serve as a booth chairperson, you will be contacted by the Fiesta Oyster Bake Office. If you are interested in volunteering for a shift or two, your name will be forwarded to one of our volunteer booth chairpersons to coordinate a scheduled work time.

 You must read and accept the Volunteer Agreement.
